कराग्रे वसते लक्ष्मीः करमध्ये सरस्वती। करमूले तु गोविन्दः प्रभाते करदर्शनम्॥

— Morning prayer

Lakshmi lives at the fingertips, Saraswati in the palm and Govinda at the wrist. So look at your hands first thing in the morning: they hold wealth, wisdom and the Lord.

हथेली के अग्रभाग में लक्ष्मी, मध्य में सरस्वती और मूल में गोविंद का वास है। इसलिए सुबह सबसे पहले अपने हाथों के दर्शन करें।

कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन। मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥

— Bhagavad Gita 2.47

You have a right to your work, never to its fruits. Do not work only for the reward, and do not give up doing your duty.

तुम्हारा अधिकार केवल कर्म पर है, उसके फल पर कभी नहीं। फल की इच्छा से कर्म मत करो, और कर्म करना भी मत छोड़ो।

यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत। अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम्॥

Whenever righteousness declines and unrighteousness rises, O Bharata, I manifest Myself.

हे भारत, जब-जब धर्म की हानि और अधर्म की वृद्धि होती है, तब-तब मैं स्वयं प्रकट होता हूँ।

परित्राणाय साधूनां विनाशाय च दुष्कृताम्। धर्मसंस्थापनार्थाय सम्भवामि युगे युगे॥

— Bhagavad Gita 4.8

To protect the good, to end evil and to establish righteousness, I come in every age.

सज्जनों की रक्षा, दुष्टों के विनाश और धर्म की स्थापना के लिए मैं हर युग में प्रकट होता हूँ।

पत्रं पुष्पं फलं तोयं यो मे भक्त्या प्रयच्छति। तदहं भक्त्युपहृतमश्नामि प्रयतात्मनः॥

— Bhagavad Gita 9.26

A leaf, a flower, a fruit or a little water: whatever is offered to Me with love, I gladly accept.

जो कोई प्रेम से मुझे पत्र, पुष्प, फल या जल अर्पित करता है, उस भक्ति से दी गई भेंट को मैं प्रेम से स्वीकार करता हूँ।

अनन्याश्चिन्तयन्तो मां ये जनाः पर्युपासते। तेषां नित्याभियुक्तानां योगक्षेमं वहाम्यहम्॥

— Bhagavad Gita 9.22

Those who think of Me alone and worship Me with steady devotion, I bring them what they lack and protect what they have.

जो अनन्य भाव से मेरा चिंतन और उपासना करते हैं, उनकी आवश्यकताएँ मैं पूरी करता हूँ और जो उनके पास है उसकी रक्षा करता हूँ।

सर्वधर्मान्परित्यज्य मामेकं शरणं व्रज। अहं त्वा सर्वपापेभ्यो मोक्षयिष्यामि मा शुचः॥

— Bhagavad Gita 18.66

Leave every other support and take refuge in Me alone. I will free you from all sins. Do not grieve.

सब आश्रयों को छोड़कर केवल मेरी शरण में आओ। मैं तुम्हें सब पापों से मुक्त कर दूँगा, शोक मत करो।

योगस्थः कुरु कर्माणि सङ्गं त्यक्त्वा धनञ्जय। सिद्ध्यसिद्ध्योः समो भूत्वा समत्वं योग उच्यते॥

— Bhagavad Gita 2.48

Do your work steady in yoga, free of attachment, the same in success and failure. This evenness of mind is yoga.

आसक्ति छोड़कर, सफलता और असफलता में समान रहकर कर्म करो। मन की यही समता योग कहलाती है।

उद्धरेदात्मनात्मानं नात्मानमवसादयेत्। आत्मैव ह्यात्मनो बन्धुरात्मैव रिपुरात्मनः॥

— Bhagavad Gita 6.5

Lift yourself up by your own mind; do not let yourself sink. The mind alone is your friend, and the mind alone your enemy.

अपने द्वारा अपना उद्धार करो, अपने को गिरने मत दो। मनुष्य स्वयं ही अपना मित्र है और स्वयं ही अपना शत्रु।

वासांसि जीर्णानि यथा विहाय नवानि गृह्णाति नरोऽपराणि। तथा शरीराणि विहाय जीर्णान्यन्यानि संयाति नवानि देही॥

— Bhagavad Gita 2.22

As a person puts on new clothes after giving up old ones, the soul takes on a new body after leaving the old one.

जैसे मनुष्य पुराने वस्त्र त्यागकर नए वस्त्र पहनता है, वैसे ही आत्मा पुराना शरीर छोड़कर नया शरीर धारण करती है।

नैनं छिन्दन्ति शस्त्राणि नैनं दहति पावकः। न चैनं क्लेदयन्त्यापो न शोषयति मारुतः॥

— Bhagavad Gita 2.23

Weapons cannot cut the soul, fire cannot burn it, water cannot wet it and wind cannot dry it.

आत्मा को न शस्त्र काट सकते हैं, न आग जला सकती है, न जल गीला कर सकता है और न वायु सुखा सकती है।

मात्रास्पर्शास्तु कौन्तेय शीतोष्णसुखदुःखदाः। आगमापायिनोऽनित्यास्तांस्तितिक्षस्व भारत॥

— Bhagavad Gita 2.14

Cold and heat, joy and sorrow come and go; they do not last. Bear them patiently.

सर्दी-गर्मी और सुख-दुःख आते-जाते रहते हैं, ये स्थायी नहीं हैं। इन्हें धैर्य से सहन करो।

श्रद्धावाँल्लभते ज्ञानं तत्परः संयतेन्द्रियः। ज्ञानं लब्ध्वा परां शान्तिमचिरेणाधिगच्छति॥

— Bhagavad Gita 4.39

One who has faith, is devoted and controls the senses gains wisdom, and with wisdom soon finds the highest peace.

श्रद्धावान, तत्पर और इंद्रियों को वश में रखने वाला ज्ञान पाता है, और ज्ञान पाकर शीघ्र ही परम शांति पाता है।

असंशयं महाबाहो मनो दुर्निग्रहं चलम्। अभ्यासेन तु कौन्तेय वैराग्येण च गृह्यते॥

— Bhagavad Gita 6.35

The mind is restless and hard to control, no doubt. But it is mastered by steady practice and detachment.

निःसंदेह मन चंचल है और कठिनाई से वश में होता है, पर अभ्यास और वैराग्य से यह वश में हो जाता है।

यद्यदाचरति श्रेष्ठस्तत्तदेवेतरो जनः। स यत्प्रमाणं कुरुते लोकस्तदनुवर्तते॥

— Bhagavad Gita 3.21

Whatever a great person does, others follow. The standard they set, the world goes by.

श्रेष्ठ व्यक्ति जैसा आचरण करता है, दूसरे लोग भी वैसा ही करते हैं। वह जो आदर्श बनाता है, संसार उसी का अनुसरण करता है।

मन्मना भव मद्भक्तो मद्याजी मां नमस्कुरु। मामेवैष्यसि सत्यं ते प्रतिजाने प्रियोऽसि मे॥

— Bhagavad Gita 18.65

Fix your mind on Me, be devoted to Me, worship Me and bow to Me. You will surely come to Me; I promise you, for you are dear to Me.

मुझमें मन लगाओ, मेरे भक्त बनो, मेरी पूजा करो और मुझे नमस्कार करो। तुम मुझे ही प्राप्त होगे, यह मेरा सच्चा वचन है, क्योंकि तुम मुझे प्रिय हो।

असतो मा सद्गमय। तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय। मृत्योर्मा अमृतं गमय॥

Lead me from the unreal to the real, from darkness to light, from death to immortality.

मुझे असत्य से सत्य की ओर, अंधकार से प्रकाश की ओर और मृत्यु से अमरता की ओर ले चलो।

सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः। सर्वे भद्राणि पश्यन्तु मा कश्चिद्दुःखभाग्भवेत्॥

— Shanti prayer

May all be happy, may all be free from illness, may all see what is good, and may no one suffer.

सभी सुखी हों, सभी रोगमुक्त हों, सभी शुभ देखें और किसी को भी दुःख न हो।

ॐ सह नाववतु। सह नौ भुनक्तु। सह वीर्यं करवावहै। तेजस्वि नावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै॥

— Taittiriya Upanishad

May we be protected together, nourished together, and work together with strength. May our learning shine, and may we never quarrel.

हम दोनों की साथ-साथ रक्षा हो, साथ-साथ पोषण हो, हम साथ मिलकर पराक्रम करें। हमारा अध्ययन तेजस्वी हो और हम कभी द्वेष न करें।

ॐ पूर्णमदः पूर्णमिदं पूर्णात्पूर्णमुदच्यते। पूर्णस्य पूर्णमादाय पूर्णमेवावशिष्यते॥

— Isha Upanishad

That is whole, this is whole. From the whole, the whole arises. Take the whole from the whole, and the whole remains.

वह पूर्ण है, यह भी पूर्ण है। पूर्ण से पूर्ण उत्पन्न होता है। पूर्ण में से पूर्ण निकाल लेने पर भी पूर्ण ही शेष रहता है।

ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः। तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि। धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्॥

— Gayatri Mantra, Rigveda 3.62.10

We meditate on the glorious light of the divine Sun, who fills earth, sky and heaven. May that light inspire our minds.

हम पृथ्वी, अंतरिक्ष और स्वर्ग में व्याप्त सविता देव के श्रेष्ठ तेज का ध्यान करते हैं। वह हमारी बुद्धि को सही मार्ग पर प्रेरित करे।

ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्। उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात्॥

— Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, Rigveda 7.59.12

We worship the three-eyed Lord Shiva, fragrant and nourishing. As a ripe cucumber is freed from its vine, may he free us from death, not from immortality.

हम सुगंधित और पोषण करने वाले त्रिनेत्र भगवान शिव की पूजा करते हैं। जैसे पका हुआ ककड़ी बेल से सहज अलग हो जाता है, वैसे ही वे हमें मृत्यु के बंधन से मुक्त करें, अमरता से नहीं।

त्वमेव माता च पिता त्वमेव त्वमेव बन्धुश्च सखा त्वमेव। त्वमेव विद्या द्रविणं त्वमेव त्वमेव सर्वं मम देवदेव॥

— Prayer

You alone are my mother and father, my relative and friend, my knowledge and my wealth. O God of gods, you are my everything.

हे देवों के देव, आप ही मेरी माता हैं, आप ही पिता, आप ही बंधु और सखा, आप ही विद्या और धन हैं। आप ही मेरे सब कुछ हैं।

पोथी पढ़ि पढ़ि जग मुआ, पंडित भया न कोय। ढाई आखर प्रेम का, पढ़े सो पंडित होय॥

— Doha, Kabir

The world died reading books, and no one became truly wise. One who learns the two and a half letters of "prem", love, is the real scholar.

किताबें पढ़-पढ़कर दुनिया मर गई, पर कोई सच्चा ज्ञानी नहीं बना। जो प्रेम के ढाई अक्षर पढ़ ले, वही सच्चा पंडित है।

मोको कहाँ ढूँढे रे बन्दे, मैं तो तेरे पास में। ना मैं देवल ना मैं मस्जिद, ना काबे कैलास में॥

— Pada, Kabir

Where are you searching for Me, friend? I am right beside you. Not in the temple, not in the mosque, not in Kaaba or Kailash.

अरे बंदे, मुझे कहाँ ढूँढता है? मैं तो तेरे पास ही हूँ। न मैं मंदिर में हूँ, न मस्जिद में, न काबा में, न कैलाश में।
